Frequently Asked Questions
KPARTS is a brand of AP 3D Custom.
The products made using 3D printing are 100% manufactured in our workshop in BREST.
The G10 stabilizers are made on a CNC milling machine in the same workshop, in Brest.
The rake is an essential parameter in the practice of wingfoil and surf foil.
Its adjustment is important and depends on both the foil used and the board used.
Indeed, each board shape is different, and foils are not set up the same way from one brand to another. Each brand develops its foils specifically for its boards: this can lead to incompatibilities when mixing a foil from one brand with a board from another.
We can find ourselves either:
– Nose down (more common): When riding, the nose of the board dips downwards as you accelerate. Your front leg is more extended than your back leg, and you feel like you have to put pressure on the back leg to maintain some semblance of balance.
– Nose up (less common): a difficult takeoff; while sailing, the nose of your board is too high. Your front leg is too bent, giving the sensation of having a very (too) twitchy foil.
L’usage de la cale de rake vient corriger l’angle du foil par rapport à la planche et permet de retrouver une assiette convenable qui convient à votre pratique.
The rake is a personal setting; it depends on your foil, your board, your size, level, and settings.
However, here are a few suggestions:
– You’re really bothered by the shape of your board; the nose is very sharp. Touchdowns are a nightmare because the board doesn’t bounce. You’re probably missing between 1.0 and 2.0 degrees of rake.
You’re occasionally bothered by the nose of your board touching the water when the water is choppy, but it doesn’t bother you much on flat water. You still want to fine-tune your settings: you’re probably missing between 0.5° and 1.5°.
Choosing a pack of 2 or 3 wedges is a guarantee of safety to avoid making a mistake, but does not mean that you will only use one wedge and that the others will not be used.
The more you progress and sail in different conditions, the more you’ll want to fine-tune your setup for the day’s conditions. A neutral trim (rake between -0.5° and +0.5°) is ideal for surf foiling or wing foiling on flat water to optimize takeoff, acceleration, and pumping. A slightly positive trim (rake between +0.5° and +1.5°) is recommended for wing foiling on choppy water or in strong winds to improve comfort and minimize touchdowns. In race or even freerace mode, a positive rake is essential.
